|Wilbur C. Britton, 89, husband of the late Barbara Allen Hendren Britton, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born April 18, 1925 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Arch Clay and Sarah Elizabeth Howard Britton. He was retired from the Kentucky State Highway Department after twenty years; owner of Brittonís Printing Service for forty years and was a farmer. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he served as Secretary of his Sunday School Class for Fifty Years and also was a former Youth Sunday School Teacher and former coach of Junior Pro Basketball. He enjoyed woodworking which earned him many Blue Ribbons at Mercer County Fair and he also enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include one son Alan (Laura) Britton of Burgin, three daughters: Reda (Bill) Johnson, Leniece (Ronnie) Dailey, and Diana (Bobby Jack) Baker all of Harrodsburg. One sister Maxie Cowan of Columbia, S.C., seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Gladys Reed and Bessie Kirkland and three brothers: Ralph, Marion, and Davis Britton.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Lester Tirey and Alan Britton officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Johnson, Jack Baker, Eric Baker, Parker Britton, Ray Daniels, Mike Riley, and Bobby Christerson serving as active pallbearers. Merlin Miller, J.P. Disponnette, Glenn Devine, and Members of the Menís Sunday School Class at Bethel Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 12:00 noon Saturday at the Bethel Baptist Church.
